CHRYSALINE ‘COCOON’ PENDANT

Svend Aage Holm Sørensen for Goldkant Leuchten & RAAK, 1962

Vintage Danish Cocoon lamp by Svend Aage Holm Sørensen, produced by the German lamp manufacturer Goldkant Leuchten for the Dutch lamp producer RAAK in 1962. See the old RAAK catalog photo.

Svend Aage Holm Sørensen was a Danish designer known for creating lamps for Fog & Mørup and Goldkant Leuchten, who developed this cocoon lamp for Raak in the Netherlands. The spherical lampshade is reminiscent of George Nelson’s ‘bubble lamp’ and is made from Chrysaline.

Chrysaline is a special technology called ‘spray-on fiberglass coating,’ inspired by silkworms, which gives the lamp its 'cocoon' name. The internal frame is made of white powder-coated iron wire shaped like a globe. The socket is a combination of beautifully patinated brass and plastic. An atmospheric iconic vintage lamp in excellent condition with barely noticeable signs of use.

• Washable, strong, and elastic Chrysaline

• Atmospheric light

• Original vintage lamp in excellent condition

• For enthusiasts of cocoon lamps in the style of Achille Castiglioni, FLOS, George Nelson ...
