AKERBLOM DINING CHAIRS nr '62'

Bengt Åkerblom & Gunnar Eklöf, 1955

Set of 6 Dining chairs nr 62 by Bengt Åkerblom & Gunnar Eklöf for AB Nassjo Sweden 1950s.

Bengt Åkerblom (1901-1990), a Swedish orthopedic doctor with a special interest in sitting postures designed his first chair (nr 60) as the most comfortable chair possible. He partnered up with Gunnar Eklöf, an interior designer from Stockholm who designed a simple stick chair concept based on Åkerblom’s ergonomic findings.

The nr 60 SZ03 concept chair and this version the nr 62 chair were eventually produced by Nässjö Chair Factory one of the biggest spindle and rocking chair furniture companies since 1870.

Condition is very good. The structure of the chairs is sound and the varnish is preserved with some minimal scratches as a sign of a previous life (see pictures). Frame and spindels made from Swedish birch.

  • Ergonomic chair providing low support and back relief.

  • Beautiful peacock-like spindle design

  • Solid birch with stunning patina

  • Iconic piece of Swedish design history
